Get Involved from your armchair...
And Help Make Taunton A Better
'Site' To See
We would like your input into our web: we want to know what
you think we should have in this section. Send
in your letters, pictures and stories and we will feature them on our
web site [depending on length and suitability, the editor
reserves the right to alter or reject as necessary]. Our postal address and contacts can be found at the
top of this page. But here are a few thoughts to stimulate
your mind:

-
do
you know of any ghost stories, fairy tales, myths or old
wives tales about people or places in your area?
- next time you look at photographs of the family
consider the backgrounds - they could provide vitals clues to old buildings, streets, signs,
people and more. We need these kinds of pictures and stories for projects
that contribute to our local heritage as well as for display
in this section.
- Do you know of any
strange or unusual objects, such as rocks, buildings, trees
etc in the area? Is there a landmark,
geographical oddity or natural wonder that pleases or
intrigues you? Check it out and
check it in to us. We would love to hear from you.

What Others Have To Say About Taunton |
| |

-
Taunton is expected
to grow significantly in the coming years. Its role as a
focal point for business and services will be enhanced.
-
Regional Planning
Guidance gives a new role to Taunton as one of the region's
Principal Urban Areas where growth will be concentrated.
Taunton's central location and role as an administrative
centre already makes it an important location for service
industries in the south west. Although modest in size, the
town has seen considerable growth in recent years. Regional
Planning Guidance sees opportunities for the town to
continue as a focal point and for it to have a wider range
of new jobs and business.
-
It will
be important to balance economic development, new housing
and the facilities and services the town will need.
Substantial investment, including measures to overcome
traffic congestion, will be required to accommodate long
term development. Physical constraints, like understanding
flood risk, must also shape the pattern of new development.
These are a few of the challenges involved.
