'The Benefits of Daylight Through Windows'
A study  of the impact of daylight on human performance and workplace productivity; human health: and financial return on investment . These impacts of daylight are reviewed for buildings that are used for work and for which day lighting has been extensively studied, namely offices, schools, hospitals, and retail stores. This literature review examines the benefits and problems of both daylight, as light, and windows, as the most common used method to deliver daylight.

Wellsprings Leisure Centre

Continued

At the rear of the bistro, opposite the reception, lays the function room used for a variety of events and occasions. This adequately sized room has its own bar and like that of the bistro, has one wall of glass. The use of colour and sense of space one gets from the room is welcoming even though it is basically a square room.

Leaving this room back the way we came, we proceed up the stairs, which leads to an open balcony overlooking the main sports hall. The balcony's straight lines and glass & steel barriers are simplistic, yet affective and promotes the visitor to look over. The lilac colour scheme does give a calming affect, which bleeds into the main hall.

This first floor houses the aerobics/dance studio, which is quite a size and unlike some smaller halls in a leisure centre it has a large storage area. Again the colour scheme changes and like all parts of the building it has a automatically controlled heating and air-conditioning system.

On the same floor is the main gym which carries everything you'd expect from a modern fitness centre, and in our experience even better than some of the aged private fitness centres in Taunton.

You make you way to this gym via the stairs on the right side of the building and as you reach the top you are encircled by the gym equipment. At first it appears light and airy contributed by the glass frontage and curves but as you make your way to the main area of the gym this feeling gradually fades.

As always the placement of machines were set in the usual factory looking industrial way, with the exception of the curved area that one sees from outside the building.
It is well ventilated, and all equipment mounts, cables and ducting are well hidden giving the gym a clean feel throughout. In the main area there is four large TV screens, music and even CD or radio. But this gym either seems a little tight for space or it has to much equipment in it. But it's newness, its soft flooring and moderate lighting is welcoming and appears very professional. It was a pleasure to see the 'quality of investment' in this gym and the North Taunton community have certainly got a quality facility here.
